Welcome to Slocomb Elementary Media Center   

Slocomb Elementary Media Center is open from 7:30-8:00 and 1:30-2:30 daily. Students in grades first through fifth will be allowed to check out two books at a time and Kindergarten may check out one book. Students have regular scheduled visits each week and are allowed to exchange books throughout the week. Please check out our links. Hopefully, these will be helpful to you. It is the mission of the Geneva County School System's Media Centers to support the system's instructional program, ensuring that all students and staff have the skills and opportunities to access, evaluate, and use information for educational and recreational purposes, becoming independent and successful lifelong learners, prepared for the 21st century.

AR Grade Level Goals “Redtop Ready Readers”

Students who meet their points and average percent correct (85% for grades K-5) goals will be eligible to participate in the AR parties each nine weeks. Tests must be taken on the students’ reading level as designated by their teacher.

There will be incentives and rewards for students who meet their points and percentage goals for each nine weeks and the yearly goal for their grade level.  

R Reader Certification Level Challenge Goals “Super Redtop Readers”

Students will receive special recognition during Awards Day at the end of the school year.

Read independently and pass 3 AR books, 
2.0 level or higher, 1 point or more each, 
AND meet the 1st grade Yearly goal of 
40 total points with 85% or above overall average.

 1st Grade

Read independently and pass 3 AR books, 
3.0 level or higher, 2 points or more each,
AND meet the 2nd grade Yearly goal of 
57 total points with 85% or above overall average.

2nd Grade

Read independently and pass 3 AR books, 
4.0 level or higher, 4 points or more each,
AND meet the 3rd grade Yearly goal of 
72 total points with 85% or above overall average.

 3rd Grade

Read independently and pass 3 AR books, 
5.0 level or higher, 5 points or more each,
AND meet the 4th grade Yearly goal of 
84 total points with 85% or above overall average.

 4thGrade

Read independently and pass 3 AR books, 
6.0 level or higher, 7 points or more each,
AND meet the 5th grade Yearly goal of 
96 total points with 85% or above overall average.

 5th Grade

*Students must read these books independently.

100 Point Club, “Lunch Bunch”- Students who have 100 points, and an 90 % or above overall average (THIS AVERAGE CANNOT BE ROUNDED) will receive a special lunch and recognition on Awards Day.

***REMEMBER*** STUDENTS MUST HAVE ALL THE GOAL POINTS FOR EACH NINE WEEKS. POINTS AND AVERAGES DO NOT ROUND. 

Alabama Virtual Library

The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Through the AVL, an equitable core of information sources are available to every student and citizen in Alabama, raising the level of excellence in schools and communities across the state.
